Humber College School of Health Sciences Is Proud to Offer MANERS Psychological First Aid program in Partnership with Tema Trust

 
TORONTO, ONTARIO – August 3. 2016 – Humber College School of Health Sciences
 has partnered with Toronto-based charity the Tema Conter Memorial
 Trust to offer MANERS
Psychological First Aid. MANERS is an innovative two-day
 workshop designed for anyone that deals with trauma or crises.
 
“The School of Health Sciences is proud to partner with the 
Tema Conter Memorial Trust in this important initiative. 
Both organizations are committed to equipping frontline emergency
 services workers with the tools to quickly recognize those individuals
 who may be experiencing difficulties in coping with a crisis or
traumatic event,” said Jason Powell, Dean of Humber Health Sciences. 
“This partnership will provide the requisite skills so that 
they may provide immediate intervention and support.”
 
First developed by Victoria Ambulance Services in Australia,
 this psychological first aid program is specifically designed 
for police officers, paramedics, firefighters, emergency health 
care providers, school crisis response teams,Community Emergency 
Response Teams (CERT), victim services, social workers, doctors,
nurses, and members of disaster relief organizations.
 
"We are pleased to partner with Humber in offering MANERS,” 
said Vince Savoia,Founder and Executive Director of the Tema
 Conter Memorial Trust. “When people are in crisis, they need
 to be seen, heard, and understood. This course teaches you how
to de-escalate crises and how to provide comfort, support, 
and acknowledgement.”
 
Participants of this two-day course will learn the fundamental
 principles of crisis
intervention through lectures, engaging videos, and the use 
of practical scenarios.
Registration is now open at humber.ca and the first course 
will be offered in
September.
